Hi can I have a post please. I’m 17 weeks pregnant and I have decided I want to be sterilised after this baby. Does anyone know what procedure it is? How do you feel afterwards? Any long term affects? We definitely don’t want anymore kids. Thank you xx

  • All I would say is if ur 100% sure you want it done maybe think about donating ur eggs for those ladies or family’s that can have babies seems a shame to waste life when others would give so much to have it xx

  • I had mine done the same time as my 4th c-section so all the pain was at the same time. I’ve heard you can get bad pains in your shoulders but these dissappear once you’ve healed. I dont know of any long term affects.

  • I asked my midwife if I could have mine done after this baby as it’s been a terrible pregency and already have an 8 year old she told me no cause am only 28 they dnt really do it till late 30s early 40s 😭😭

  • I had my tubes done last august after having my 3rd baby prematurely. I didn’t really have any problems other than a little pain.

  • It is not as simple as just asking for a sterilisation I’m afraid. They will argue against it without a justified health reason. If you are lucky they can do it alongside a c-section, otherwise it is surgery. They can either cut & tie your tubes (the easiest option & potentially reversable ), they can remove one part of your reproduction (ovaries or the uterus) or they can do full hysterectomy & remove everything. A tubal tie is minimal discomfort & there are usually no side effects. A hysterectomy is a longer recovery & can trigger menopause

  • Iv just been steralised at 31 it was done whilst i had a c section so i was awake. Just felt tugging and pulling like with the section worst oart was smelling burning 😷 it just added about 15 mins extra surgery time recoverywise im not sure as i had complications from the c section surgery but as far as im aware the steralisation didnt add any extra ontop. I had a tubal litegation x

  • I was sterilised after having my little girl. I opted for having it done without surgery. I was fully awake while they clipped my tubes. It was a little uncomfortable but not overly painful. By the next day I was fine. I had to go back a few months later (8/12weeks) to have a dye injected and to check for leaks.
(Make sure nothing was going through) now I’m fine no complications.
When you go and speak to your doctor about it they will want to talk to you and your partner to check that’s what both want and that you are sure. Some doctors will not refer you if you are under 30, only have one child. Luckily my doctor was good and referred me and i was both when I had mine done.
    Good luck x

  • I think it should be something that a women should be able to opt for either aftercbirth or a few weeks after.
