Hi, can I have a ppp.
Wondering if anyone has some info that might help a friend……she is polish and moved here around 12 years ago to work, met an English man and they have 2 kids together. He worked while she stayed home to look after the kids.
They split up last year and he decided to sell the family home and helped her to rent a flat. Now he won’t help her anymore, so she asked the council if she would be entitled to housing benefit and was told no as she isn’t from this country. Is that right? Is there anything she can do? She is so upset, she has no family here to help with childcare and has no idea who to turn to for help. She is scared she will end up homeless and lose her children

  • Can you please reply- unfortunately she hasn’t worked for the last 7 years. If she were to go self employed, would she still need to do that for 5 years before she can claim?

  • As far I know, she’s entitled to benefits if she’s longer than 5 years here. I haven’t been in situation like that but I know few people singles or couples who got benefits, if she’s got NIN and longer than 5 years all she should do is apply online.

  • She would’ve had to have worked here for 5 years before being able to claim anything, so I don’t think she will be entitled x

  • If she’s claiming eea jsa as an immigrant then she won’t be entitled to housing benefit, unless she claimed the hb element at times of claiming eea jsa

  • She hasn’t worked though as she stayed home to look after the children so I don’t think she’d be entitled to claim
