Hi could I have a pp please. I’m currently 9 weeks pregnant and told my employer of my pregnancy at 4 weeks. Done a risk assessment etc everything fine. I’m head of my department and manage 2 other members of staff, one being 17 and the other 18 almost 19 both only been working there for 5 months. So on Sunday the 19yr old called in sick with a migraine, how ever this left me with 16 hotel rooms to clean on my own, not a problem, managed to get someone to help me after working on my own for 2 hours. Only then was it brought to my attention by the person helping me that the 17 yr old had gone Xmas shopping that same day in another town and they are best friends so more than likely she probably went with her. I have no proof of this so obviously haven’t brought it up. In my risk assessment it was stated that I am not to lift any full linen bags so on the Sunday I put all of the dirty linen in our cupboard with some bags ready for the girls to put into the bags and get them sent out to be cleaned on the Monday as I am not aloud to lift them and then both only having 2 rooms to clean so would have plenty of time. Well they come in Monday and the 18 yr old kicks of big time about it and proceeds to send me texts telling me to fuck off, go fuck myself etc, baring in mind I’m her line manager. So I screen shot the messages to my manager only to be ignored by him all day after reading the messages. Unbeknown to me she’s been crying down the phone at him saying how she has to bag it up and that she’s not doing it. So I go into work early this morning to speak to my manager who tells me he’ll come get me in 15 mins to chat, fine, 20 mins later he comes to get me with the 18 yr old, and basically says infront of her that I was wrong for leaving the linen out for them to do and at how unwell she is but she still came to work etc, when I tried to talk all I got was “can I talk” from my manager. He then proceeds to offer her my job and wage when I go on maternity leave (even though I’m only 9 weeks at the moment!) and was given no disciplinary action for telling me to go fuck myself and sat there in-front of my manager gobbing off at me saying it’s all my fault. Unfortunately this isn’t the first time both girls haven’t turned up, one time being they both informed me the day before saying they will not be in due to come college thing even though they were not in college which left no cover at all and I was left with 22 rooms to do on my own. Really what I’m asking is, is there anything I can do about what’s happened? Should she be getting a written warning or disciplinary and does he have the right to already offer my job to someone (especially someone with her attitude) when I’m only 9 weeks. I’ve been in the company for 2 years and cannot help but feel extremely upset by what has happened today. Feel like handing in my notice 😢. Sorry for the long post.

  • Completely wrong clearly someone’s favouring the young! He’ll soon see the truth once you’re in leave and you’ll be the one laughing while he’s left with her mess

  • Take it to HR BECAUSE it’s up to them not him. And tell them of his disgusting behaviour towards you. Bring up the Equally and Diversity Act 2010 as this is blatant discrimination of a pregnant woman.
