Hi could you post privately for me?
My 14 year daughter has stolen her grandads credit card details she’s made purchases of £800 if not more he doesn’t know yet! I’ve told her she’s to message him and let him know what she’s done. I’m wanting to call the police because it’s serious but don’t want her to go to prison. She’s obsessed with being rich ‘all her friends are rich so she says’ her friend has also taken Delivery of all these purchases at her house. She’s normally a good girl doing really well at school top of her class but a very quiet girl. I’m so upset she’s done this I’m not sure what to do 😭

  • Has she ever done anything like this before? personally i would call the police to scare her becuase at 14 she is old enough to know right from wrong and the fact shed do it to a family member tends to suggest shed do it to anyone else..

  • Firstly I’d make her return everything she can for a refund and sell everything else. Then make up the rest by selling other possessions, MAYBE I’d consider paying her for chores around the house, ask for money to wash cars, cut lawns etc. I don’t think I’d call the police if she’d never done it before but she wouldn’t be seeing her friends for a month, she’d be telling them why and also tell her grandad face to face what she’s done. I’d be furious!

  • personally i would be very angry but i wouldn’t call the police on my daughter!! fair enough what she has done is wrong and of course she should be punished but i think calling the police isn’t the right thing to do. sort it out between yourselves, punish her and make sure she understands what she has done is bad. she could also get a paper round and pay the money back.

  • Send back wot u can! And she needs to tell her grand father.
I’d be furious and wud never be able to trust her again. My purse wud be attached to me 24/7.
And make sure she’s aware of how unacceptable theft is!!

  • I’d call the cop absolutely how is she going to learn?! U can take away her things ground her but in my opinion it’s not sever enough punishment. I will have to pay this back no way should Grandad be out of pocket. And that’s unfair u.

  • You need to report it to the police. It’s fraud and it’s theft and she needs to face the consequences. Have to be cruel to be kind. She’s old enough to understand what she has done and if you practically cover for her and take responsibility she will do it again. It makes it worse that she has done this to her family 😢 if she has things like ipad/phone etc you should sell them also and tell her to tell her grandad it’s a down payment towards the £800. She needs to earn that money and pay every penny back as a lesson as to where the money comes from

  • Everyone deserves a 2nd chance. She is at an impressionable age. I did this on my mum, not to the tune of £800 mind but my parents sent all back for refunds. I was trying to keep up with the crowd. I learnt by it, that was 23yrs ago! I work in the law & could never have gotten a job if my mother would have reported me to the police! At 14 she can be charged…explain the seriousness of the situation to your daughter. It will be enough when she has to face her grandfather. If she did it again then yea involve the police.

  • I’d phone police she’s 14 she knows fine well what she was doing and to steal of her grandad is disgusting I would never steal if my family or anyone in that matter. I’d make sure she gave him the £800 back that’s not just a tenner that’s a lot of money. X

  • If you call the police it’s gonna be on her record forever & she may not get jobs and get in to college, I wouldn’t call the police but I would take everything off her. Make sure you’ve got all the invoices and send it all back to pay her grandad back, make sure she has her possessions taken away, but I’d tell her grandad asap because he’s been robbed x

  • I agree that she should tell her grandad and tell him what she’s done. I would also make her pay back every penny back that she took from her grandad including any extra charges if it isn’t paid back to the bank on time. Wether that be selling her possessions, getting a Saturday job, paper round whatever it takes.

  • I would contact the police if that was my child she knows right from wrong at that age! Her poor grandfather! I would drag her by her hair and make her tell him face to face ! Regardless if she hasn’t done anything like this before ! Try send everything back contact her mates mum and dad and tell them you need the packages back or they can pay for them ! £800 is a lot of money in reality especially on a credit card ! Can get him into some serious debt if he can’t make the repayments in time! I feel for you what a horrible situation to be in ! But she needs to learn the consequences of her actions otherwise if you go lightly on her by just grounding /taking her phone away she will think it’s acceptable to do it again as it can’t be that serious she hardly got in trouble

  • Oh my actual god ! You need to call the police she needs to realise that this is serious and you really need to tell the grandad before he gets the shock of his life when the statement comes in !!!! It’s fraud ! Get her a Saturday job even cleaning toilets and make her pay every single penny back even if it takes her 5 years, call it community service if you like. Make her realise that money has to be earned. The parents of the the child taking the goods in also need to be aware too. Xxx

  • Me personally would have to call the police. If a stranger had done it to your relative you wouldn’t hesitate. Trust me she won’t do it again after being arrested. Also message her grandad ??!! She needs to see him face to face. The more mortified she is the less likely she will repeat her actions

  • Sorry but phone the police will give her a scare at least. You don’t want her thinking she can get away doing stuff like that she will just get worse. If was my child who did that I would give them a good flipping slap aswell I’d also tell police I had think they would understand

  • I would get the police involved and let them be with her when she has to explain it to her Granddad, hard lesson but a lesson learnt 😀

  • I’d make a point about how bad it is and report it to the police you may not want her to go to prison but if it’s going to show her that her actions have consequences it’s the best way to go

  • She needs to go and tell her grandfather – none of this sending a message the very least he deserves…. Then she needs to return everything that can be returned and she needs to start earning her own money to pay it back…. Grandad can report the fraud on his card and the bank will refund his money – he will need a crime number so the police would need to be involved….. I think you need to ask grandad what he wants to do….
