Hi i was just wondering if there was any kind of vitamin or tablet I could take to help produce breast milk, as when I was pregnant with my first child I didn’t produce any milk before or after pregnancy. I’m 22 weeks pregnant now and want to breastfeed when baby is born but worried I’m not going to produce any like the first time round? Any advice would be very much appreciated.

  • I have herd drinking lots of water and eating well. Helps a lot. For me breastfeeding was way to much with other medical issues. Even if you get a couple weeks it’s better then. Nothing.

  • It can take up to 3 days for your milk to come in properly. Babies tummys are so tiny when they are first born that the first feeds until your milk comes in is colustrum. The best thing to do is get baby latched as soon as possible after birth, plenty of skin to skin and just feed feed feed 🙂 In regards to pumping, it isn’t recommended until your milk supply is well established at around the earliest of 6 weeks as it can cause you to have an over supply of milk and can cause engourgement and at worst mastitis. • Lactation cookie recipe – flaxseed/linseed
    Rolled oats
    Fenugreek
    Brewers yeast
    Cacao nib
    Honey
    More chocolate to taste.

Please take the pressure off yourself as that won’t help. Fed is best either way.
But keep your fluids up and up your calorie intake.
Avoid raspberry leaf tea as can bring on Labour!

  • I was prescribed domperidone from doctors to increase breast milk. My son was in intensive care and it was nurses that told me to go and ask. It’s not specifically for that purpose but can help x

  • I was told drinking raspberry leaf tea or fennel tea helped but not great tasting. Get a pump and pump in between, have set times for pumping and feeding. Your supply should be fine, don’t be goaded onto doing it if you struggle though as it can be very depressing and upsetting for you which is stressful xx

  • Lots of water. When you’re 8 months, start massaging your breasts. There’s videos on YouTube on how to do it. That will stimulate your milk supply. There’s also a tea called mother milk that worked a treat for me x

  • Fenugreek for milk. Raspberry tea leaf is used as an aid to soften your cervix – lots of ladies take it to ‘induce’ labour.
