Hi there, can I get a private post please, I would myself but my work colleagues are on here. I got sent into the office on Monday to talk about how much I’ve been off this year at work, I have a child and I have been unwell too, it’s only because it’s more than everyone else but they don’t have children. Can they do anything about it? If my child is unwell I have to be off as there is no one else that could have her. Her dad could but he earns over half as more as I do in a day. So we couldn’t do that. I feel like there going to start being dicks with me but I love working there. I was off last week with the flu and I have had to get today off as got a phone call an hour ago that my daughter is unwell and I had to go pick her up. And on the phone they sound pissed off with me. Anyone else been in this situation? And what can you or they do? X

  • Your work place should have a sickness policy and I would recommend you give it a read. As for your child you are allowed dependence leave to look after a sick child. This means they have to allow you the time off but do not have to pay you for it. They are also not allowed to discriminate against you for taking time off to look after a sick child.
Also I would advise having a look at the acas website for further up to date employment information.
