I don’t know if you’s cover this kind of thing but I handed in notice to work last week to leave as I’m due off Maternity anyways I rang citizen advice and they said we aren’t entitled to any working tax or housing benefit as my partner works full time earning £17.200. Is this right? I found it very shocking that that’s enough for two children and 2 adults. Very worried now.
Thanks

  • You should probably have figured it out before handing your notice in. If you believe it’s wrong, go on the entitled to website.

  • Are you able to withdraw your notice and go back to work? It’s a big decision to give it up so you need to research your options very carefully.

  • I’m not sure about council tax and housing benefit but you should be able to claim tax credits and working tax credits depending on how much you earned combined last year.

  • If you’ve left you won’t get maternity pay now surely? If you’d stayed I think you may have been eligible for working tax with a higher limit.
