Please could you ask privately for me?

Sorry it’s a long one..

*Labour*

Has anyone been induced by request due to personal reasons?

I want to request to be induced on my due date if baby doesn’t come sooner.

I’m currently 37 weeks pregnant, without going into too much detail one of my parents is suffering with an aggressive form of lung cancer which is spreading fast.

It was only discover earlier this year and since then they have deteriorated rapidly.
We all thought that we would have more time but it looks like time is now running out. I just want them to meet their grandson and right now I just don’t know if they will be around in 5 weeks time to meet him.

I know that induction is usually only offered if there is a medical reason. My first labour was induced due to a large baby and this one seems to be going the same way, but if it isn’t offered I’m trying to pluck up the courage to ask without having a breakdown in the consultants office ☹️

  • When I was in being induced I heard a woman say she asked to be induced as on her last pregnancy she list the baby while in labour so she was afraid to go full term so maybe if you ask they will allow it 🙂

  • All you can do is speak to your midwife & explain the situation. The mw won’t be in the position to grant your request but can refer ur to the consultant & I’m sure given the circumstances they would agree.

  • Wish I asked my dad died in the hospital I gave birth in two days before my son was due! They can only say no and it’s perfectly fine to breakdown xx

  • So sorry for your situation, please do ask them & don’t worry about breaking down, there was lots of tears when I requested to be induced – my doctor even cried with me & then booked my induction.. I was induced for personal reasons rather than medical ones but I was 38 weeks.. PM me if needed x

  • I got induced because my dad had passed away. I gave birth to my little girl on her due date and we both made it to my dads funeral the next day. Speak to your midwife and then she will speak to a consultant. The consultant was very reluctant to give it me because of the risks. Xx

  • Are you consultant lead? I was induced by maternal request due to my mam being due for a majour op on the wednesday (was due on the sunday) xx

  • Maybe ask a good friend or partner to come along and get them to ask on your behalf and explain the situation. Every hospital is different so it’s worth asking. I hope you get the outcome you want. Good luck x
