PPP does anyone have experience with children with hearing loss and starting school and SENCO? Our son starts school next year and although we don’t know how bad it is until next month from the tears already done we know he does have hearing loss. His speech development is only slightly delayed and he’s such an adventurous happy little boy just like his brothers but due to his hearing loss he struggles with sitting as he can’t hear well so gets up lots and needs face to face conversation especially in noises environments with other children else he just can’t hear well and he needs to be spoken to with a raised voice if other noise is present and it’s really difficult for him to know he’s being spoken to if he’s looking away from someone. I wondered if SENCO help with hearing loss? Would this be something we could get extra support in place for? Before we found out about his hearing loss the preschool would say he’s not good with listening or sitting and seems uninterested at times etc but of course we now understand why (plus he’s only 3) and I worry he’ll struggle in school with the (sometimes unrealistic) high expectations and from the teachers we’ve already experienced with our older son. Our older son has asthma and they’ve been wonderful with his transition from preschool to school but I have no idea how it works with hearing loss as this is new to us…any advice please? X
