Weekends/Sundays are usually for family time, right?
My partner was working for a firm… him and his boss ended up having a falling out so he quit and started working for himself. He was working all hours under the sun and weekends too. He said it wouldn’t be a permanent thing and we would soon have our weekends together as a family as soon as he started making more money. He wasn’t making as much on his own as when he was at the firm. (Self employed- he was still earning considerably more than minimum wage) His boss called him and asked for him to start working for him again, they both put their differences aside. Because the firm pays more than what he was earning self employed, he promised me he wouldn’t be working weekends as he wouldn’t need to. If he did ,the work he would be doing would be for family and friends,not every weekend. Fair enough.
So he starts working again for this firm and slowly but surely he’s working every weekend again doing extra work for friends. He can keep his word to do favours for them but me and my daughter are getting the short straw here. She hardly sees her dad. When he comes home on an evening, its time for her to go to bed/or she is already in bed.I’ve spoken to him many times about this and nothing is ever resolved. It just goes in one ear then out of the other. Then when I ask if he’s working a particular weekend he says ‘yeah’ I get upset, explain why I’m pissed off for the 100th time and he just doesn’t get it?!? I don’t know what else I can say to him. He brags about how much money he has earned , yet if we need something for the house he will say “moneys abit tight this month, we will have to wait”
I want to start working again,but because of his wage we don’t qualify for help towards childcare and he says he can’t afford to pay it from his wages. If I start working again, my wages wouldn’t even cover childcare costs. I just don’t even know what I want from this… Just needed to vent. Has anybody been in a similar situation?
