Can I have a private post please?

I really need some advice on a delicate situation, I’m am pregnant with my first child and as much as I love my mum, I don’t want her there’s when I give birth. Before you think that’s a bit cruel, I’ll explain why. She doesn’t know how to calm me down when I’m stressed, panicked etc, I feel she hasn’t really been as supportive as she could’ve been during my pregnancy and tbh, since moving into my own home years ago I’ve never really needed my mum for anything. I have a friend who I feel I’m much closer too and who understands me better (we’ve been friends for almost 20yrs) and she is the one I turn to when I having a bad day or have a problem, so I have asked my friend to be my birthing partner, along with my other half. How do I tell my mum without offending her?
P.S. this would be her 9th grandchild so it’s not a first time experience for her.
Thanks for any advice.

  • It’s not cruel in the slightest! I wouldn’t want my mum there and luckily she wouldn’t want to be (for good reasons as we have a good relationship) Does she expect to be there?
