Hi can I have a PPP.
I’m currently on maternity leave and suppose to be returning to work in September, I would however love to be a SAHM, at least until my littly can go to nursery at 3.
My husband works 32 hours a week and he works nights.
When looking online I can’t find anything that indicates if I’d be entitled to any benefits as any calculators ask for what I earn now
Can anyone shine any light on this? Like if I’d be entitled to any more than just child benefit
Thanks

  • I’m due to go back in September too after my second child.i used to work full time before the children but now only do 16 hours.i have been weighing up my options with whether or not to return.my partner works 40 hours and it would be a struggle, but I’ve been there nearly 10 years and fancy a change.from what I can work out any benefit is based on earnings more than hours worked (apart from working tax).i won’t be entitled to any form of benefits if I don’t work e.g. Income support etc as my partner earns above the threshold nor will we be entitled to any working tax, again earn too much on a single wage.to me it’s wrong as they take your earnings before tax and he doesn’t bring home no where near enough after tax…i will be entitled to some tax credits,I worked out about 68 pounds a week but that’s for two children.with your partner only doing 32 hours he may drop below the higher earnings threshold for working tax so he may qualify as long as he isn’t on a high rate of pay if you get me…if I don’t go back I’ve worked out il stand to lose 15 pounds a week as I will receive more child tax,but it will only cover 90% of what I’d get in wages .if I go back il receive what I do now which is 115 pounds a week plus the estimated 68 tax credits.if I go back just one day I think it would work out I got about 30 pounds a week more in child tax.hope this helps.

  • Child tax credits and working tax credits based on partners income. Plus depending on income, you may get a little help with rent/council tax. Just a bit of advice….i wrote letter of resignation to boss to let him know i wasnt returning to work after maternity leave too. (Make sure you know when maternity leave finishes though! )

  • Depends on your partner’s earnings. It usually asks for the previous financial years earnings for you both (maternity pay is classed as income as you are still technically employed). You may find you’re not entitled to much this year but next year it will go up as your earnings will have decreased a lot x

  • Make sure u check your maternity policy some insist that u go back for a set period before u leave if you’ve received mat pay, if you simply don’t go back then you may have to pay back some of the entitlement!
    Just a thought x

  • You would get estimated if on min wage 32 hours a week as this is what we get xx
    Child benifit
Child tax credits £240 pm for 1 child or £460 for 2 children
Working tax credits of £52 a week
And housing benifit of around £180 per month depending on were you live xxx

  • Me and my partner did this and tax credits used last years wages so we got nothing even though i hadnt worked since end of may. Only just started getting money off them.

  • If your child is under 5 you can claim income support regardless of being fired or leaving your job. But if you’re hubby works then no. If you don’t work, you can claim child tax and working tax credits through him working and you’ll get around £120 per week depending on his hourly rate and may get help via housing benefit too

  • My partner earns £1000 a month or just over and we get £200-300 a month in universal credits. So maybe see of you are entitled to that?

  • It will depend on your partners earnings. There’s a calculator I believe.

  • When doing the calculator you need to put your income as zero 🤦🏼‍♀️
