Hi, could I have a private post please. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the adoption process. Basically my fiancé and I have been talking about him maybe adopting my 3 year old daughter. Her ‘father’ has never had anything to do with her and is not on the birth certificate. He was extremely violent towards me and I found out I was pregnant to him the day after I left him. I tried to let him have contact when she was born hoping he might change (more fool me) but within a few weeks he was battering me again and held a knife to my throat whilst I had my daughter in my arms. So he made it pretty clear that he can’t even be a decent human being, let alone a father! My fiancé has brought my daughter up from being a baby, he is absolutely amazing with her and she even calls him dad. We are also expecting baby number 2 later this year, and plan on getting married in the next few years. We will be changing my daughters surname to his by deed poll anyway, but we have also been talking about him adopting her, as we both agree that if anything happens between us in the future he would still want to have contact with my daughter and be her father, and adoption will give him them rights. I can’t get a clear answer on how we will go about applying for adoption online, and I am confused as to whether we need her ‘fathers’ permission or not, even though he has nothing to do with us and isn’t on the birth certificate. Does anyone have these answers please? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
