Hi guys can I have a private post please.

My son is 13 nearly 14 and has been bullied all his life. He came home recently and announced he would like to transition to be female. He’s never looked like the type of kid that takes a lot of time on his appearance and other than liking singing and dancing he doesn’t appear to act very feminine. Now that’s not me disbelieving my child it’s just me stating the facts that’s all. I am fully supportive of my child and if this is what they want then fine. But where do we start? Is a MTF transition at 13 (going into a year9) possibly the worst time to do this or the best? How do I allow them to explore this without the risk of more and more bullying. Any advice would be great!
Thanks

  • Look for LGBT youth support groups in your area, he’ll be able to meet up with other young people like him (or her if the male pronouns are uncomfortable to hear). It’s a very brave thing to come out at 13! Also look up Stephanie Brite and laverne cox, both very strong and proud trans women, might help seeing people who have been where he is and come out the other side x

  • You’re best speaking to a specialist first but make sure he knows you’re giving your full support! It’ll be a tough time but you’re doing what’s best to make your child happy! Love seeing parents so understanding about this šŸ‘ŒšŸ‘ x

  • It’s really hard but u have to do what’s best for him if this is what he wants then maybe start doing it but by bit let him be a girl at home and when he is comfortable let him go school then when old enough and he is 100% happy let him change but most of all support him don’t let him down or push him away be there for him
