Hi i don’t know if anyone else has had the same problem my daughter is in reception year at school and the teacher has said her reading is fantastic but her writing level is just not matching up. She has quite poor control and fine motor skills and this is leaving her frustrated when carrying out writing tasks at school. Ive tried to look up different ways of helping her gain fine motor skills but a lot of the things ive come across seem to be aimed at preschool children. Anyone else had this issue and if so what did you do to try and help your child? 😊

  • As someone said dough disco, using scissors, practicing writing in a fun way etc. I get my 5 year old to write all the birthday and Christmas cards and that helped her a lot with pen control.

  • My son was the same in reception. His teacher told me to get chalks for him to write on pavement outside and also get him to spell his name and other words on a wall using a water gun. We did and it must have worked as he is now in year 1 and his writing has improved massively. xx

  • Get a tub of play dough and you tube a video called ‘dough disco’ the kids love it. Its hand exercises which strengthen the muscles used to write. My daughter loves it.

  • Playdough is great for building up strength in fingers and improving fine motor skills
