PPP my son just started a multi sports club once a week.. when we went for the first time on Thursday the guy said ” you can leave him here and collect him when we finish” I didn’t as it was his first session but I may in the future as I was the only mum that stayed however I do feel uneasy about leaving him for a few reasons..and would like some clarification on a few things.. can you tell me if I’m asking the right questions or going way over the top!!!
1. Are you crb checked?
2. Are you first aid trained?
3. Do you do some kind of sign in sheet so you know whose there or missing in case of an emergency or fire (he didn’t ask us to sing in on first session)
4. You didn’t ask for any contact details in case you need to contact me..
5. Do you have a safe word for each child so not just any random can say they are here to collect my child..
Feel free to add anything you think I should ask
Thanks

  • Can you add to my post please..
the club has only been running 2 weeks so is early days for the guy..
It’s through a local community centre (although none of the centre staff were there) I’m guessing he hires it from them..
The reason I didn’t ask at the time as I just wanted to see what it was about and what sports they had to offer its was only when we got home my son said he would like to continue going..

  • I asked all those questions when my son started football at our local ymca. Don’t be afraid to ask if you’re not sure.
I established that the reception staff weren’t trained to do the job properly and that they were happily taking the money without anyone actually signing the kids in and out. It wasn’t the reception staffs fault. Someone clearly wasn’t managing it properly. I complained. They have an outstanding Ofsted for their after school services so there’s no way they didn’t know what should have been happening.

  • If the coach is alone As a PE tutor I would question why is he on his own, for safeguarding reasons it’s always a minimum of 2 people then if any incidences occur it’s not one against another there would be a witness. Heaven forbid. Secondly a register should be always taken like u say for health and safety reasons. If you have any queries ask him if he’s qualified and experienced then he won’t have any issues making you feel at ease. Double check on the CRB (now called a DBS) the police are slow at processing mine took 6 months but I signed a disclaimer stating that I had no offences or convictions, always do your homework before leaving your child. If your not 100% then stay with him they can’t force you to leave x

  • If it a club should be crb checked and you should have filled in forms if it a constant thing. Wheres it at?maybe because it first session see how he goes before you start paying that’s what cubs do a 4week trial. I wouldn’t worry though x

  • What’s the ratio of staff to kids ? Surely he can only have so many kids if he is alone . Does he have contact details you need ie if your running late or something?

  • They have to be crb checked by law these days & cannot work with children if they don’t have a crb certificate

  • How old is your son? Did he not fill any paperwork when he started? Or is it something through school?

  • I’d assume he should be all of them things! It’s a legal requirement when working with children for most of them!
