Private post please!
I’m 17 weeks, I’ve just been playing around with my home Doppler (angel sounds) and can’t find babies heartbeat? I do have an anterior placenta, I don’t know if that makes any difference? I know the advise not to use them but it’s my first time using it this pregnancy! High risk pregnancy due to previous stillbirth, shall I ring the hospital? No bashing please, I’ve looked online but not really sure what to do, has anybody else been in this situation? Thank you!

  • Could you add to my post please? Thank you everybody, I did manage to find my own, then babies eventually! I’m just so worried all the time, I’m really struggling with this pregnancy, i can’t enjoy it, I’m constantly worrying after loosing my daughter. I’m at midwifes tomorrow, the Doppler has now been put away and I won’t be using it again! Xx

  • This is why kicks count don’t recommend using dopplers at all it can cause unecessary stress ur still very early midwives don’t use dopplers till 16 weeks and they’re trained to use them having a anterior placenta can block the heartbeat depending on babies position yes I wouldn’t say it’s cause for concern but if u are worried ring mau and see what they say x

  • I had placenta previa it was horrible baby used to kick about 11 and then at 2ish and after I hemeriged I couldn’t feel her kick so I used the doppler and still couldn’t hear her so I called the midwife unit and explained about the placenta she asked me to come in and checked baby and baby started kicking it’s harder to feel and hear movements with the placenta being everywhere xxx

  • Ring the maternity unit it will make you feel better, I too did exactly the same as you I had an anterior placenta and I bought a home Doppler, I know it’s hard but the best thing you can do is get rid of it, I became so obsessed with listening In on it and there where lots of times I couldn’t find her, or your listening to the wrong thing I.e the placenta x

  • Still hard to find at 17 weeks my midwife struggled with Doppler at appointment heartbeat was very quiet but I also have a anterior placenta and it can make a lot of difference, midwife had to go low down and to left to even hear it. I’m now 28 weeks. X

  • It can be harder to find hv with material placenta. I was the same always took my midwife a little while to find mine. And when she did my little one would always move away xx

  • Using a home doppler isn’t recommended. Even the professionals can have difficulty finding the heartbeat, and there has even be one case where a woman thought she was listening to her baby’s heartbeat but it was the placenta and her baby had actually died. Instead of relying on her baby’s movements, she put faith in a machine and lost her precious baby. Since you’ve had a previous loss,I would seek medical advice instead of relying on the doppler

  • I didn’t feel my baby move due to my placenta for around 23 weeks and didn’t ever pick it up on a baby monitor once or twice at the most, best not to use them if your really worried then ring x

  • I would ring antenatal ward. I’m sure baby is fine but there’s no harm ringing them for advice xxx

  • This is why they aren’t recommended. Ring your midwife if you’re concerned
