Private post please
I’m just after a little bit of advise if there’s anybody that has been in a similar situation to the one I find myself in. I’ve been with my partner for 11 years we have 1 child together. I’ve been living with him for the past 9 years. My name isn’t on the mortgage or any of the house hold bills. Where would I stand if I was to leave? Would I be entitled to anything from the house or would I have to walk away empty handed?. I work but where he pays the household bills I pay for car expenses, food shopping and anything the my daughter wants. Any advise would be appreciated thanks

  • Unless you are married you have to prove that you have financially contributed to the house to be entitled to anything. You dont automatically get half, regardless of how long you have lived together

  • You have a child together amd have lived together for a significant amount of time you are entitled to 50% but you coukd also stay in the house even if your name is not on it. You can get an occupation order as you have an interest in the property. I would highly recommend as a matter of urgency registering a notice of interest on the property. You can do all these things yourself inbox me of you want any help. I did it all myself xx

  • I’m not totally sure on this one… I’ve been with my fella for 26 years have 3 kids with him and changed my surname too.. I do know I would be entitled to half as there’s a new law.. but not too sure how long you have to be to claim anything.

  • From what I understand you only have an entitlement if you have contributed toward the mortgage, bills or upkeep of the property in the time you have lived there. If you’ve paid toward the mortgage you may also only be entitled to what you’ve put in. Only thing you have for sure is the right to live there so he can’t kick you out. But that’s it. Best to speak to someone from citizens advice

  • I’m pretty sure if you’ve lived together for more than 4 years your entitled to half of everything x

  • People who are saying she’s entitled to half are wrong.
You are entitled to nothing. Being a common law wife means nothing.

  • Common law husband and wife should apply in uk ? Go to citizens advice in first instance or pro bono.
