Would you let your 9 year old boy child to walk from/to school on there own if it’s literally 10 min walk, with three lights crossing, two back roads without lights and he is super confident to do so ? Thanks

  • He is very sensible and it’s very small town where everyone knows each other if that helps , he got told about stranger danger etc. He go to shop on his own which is literally 5 min away and loves it !

  • Nope. My daughter is 8 and I’ll continue to take her and collect her. Not worth the risk imo. They could get kidnapped, bullied by older gangs etc and even if they’re sensible, drivers aren’t always sensible. Not a risk I’d take. Much prefer to know they’re safe. But each to their own.

  • Maybe stagger it a bit, meet him half way home for a couple of weeks or meet him at the school then let him set off, let him get some distance ahead of you and then start walking yourself, that way you can see him and how he copes with walking home on his own and he feels like he’s getting a little independence and trust and you get some peace of mind x

  • No not a 9 year old, my oldest is 8 and she won’t be walking alone until high school and even then it won’t be the entire journey because she’ll be walking with me while I drop her sisters off and then carrying on up the road

  • Depends on how mature he is no one will know ur son better than you and if he maybe has a mobile he could phone u and u could phone him my friend lets her little boy walk home himself.. they all need to have that trust eventually just when u as a parent feel ur child is ready.. x

  • No. I wouldn’t let my 9 year old walk on his own and his school is at the end of our street less than a minute away
