Hi can i have a post please,

my 3 year old had just been put on Montelukast, for breathing issues, and it says not to take with food, I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas how I can give it to her without food? And has anyone else’s child been on this and it worked?

Thanks

  • Can you comment on my post please?

She has been given the chewable tablet form

  • It depends on what form of montelukast they have given to you. My 2 year old had the powder sachets in which I just mixed with yogurt at night time. He was none the wiser. Unfortunately they didn’t work for him, but his chest is now under control. Every child’s different though. Good luck xxx

  • My son has this. It is absolutely FANTASTIC. We were in hospital on nebs at least twice a month before, but now he hasn’t had to go in for about a year.

Best way that worked for us, is to have a strict routine with foods and give it just before she goes to sleep at night šŸ™‚ obviously two hours after food. There has been times where I’ve had to give my son it where he’s had food within the two hours, but it works best on an empty stomach xx

  • My 2.5 yr old got put on them as a trial for a week. He had the tablet as the hospital pharmacy didnt have the powder. Told him it was a sweety an he was happy untill he bit it. He said it was disgusting. The next 3 dayz i crushed it in a yoghurt and would get no mummy not with sweety in.
Unfortunately he always had te bad side effect of night terrors and tummy pain so we had to stop. Xx

  • My little boy has the powder form. He either has it poured into his mouth, usually no problems however if for whatever reason he’s not cooperating we mix it with yogurt. The advice I was given is that it has be given with cold purĆ©ed food. From what I have been told by a consultant they literally just treat the chewable
    Tablet like a sweet.
If you’re not comfortable with the tablet form ask for the powder. I was offered the tablet but felt my son was too young for them, he’s only 2. They have made a massive difference with my son he’s so much better having this with a combination of inhalers xx

  • My 2 year old has the sachets too. We give her it just before bed after her inhalers. She thinks it’s a treat and runs to the box to get it. She loves it.
We were told to give it before bed as it works overnight?
She has been miles better and has had less hospital admissions now.
Hope it helps your little one too x

  • My daughter who is 8 now has been on it since being little and we’ve had no hospital admissions since. She had lots prior to being on it. She has always been on the tablet and liked the taste so never an issue. She takes it at night before brushing her teeth

  • My daughter has these and they work for her. But be very careful they can have awful side effects for some kids. Night terrors, behavior problems, depression etc so just keep a good eye on little one for first few weeks. Xx

  • my daughter had the powdered ones and just added the to yogurt, but they are stopping the powered form and changing to tablets as ive been informed by the chemist as ive been trying for the past month to get her prescription to finally be told that, luckily the asthma nurse sorted it pretty quickly and we now have the tablets to try
