Hi can I have a private post please ..
I got a letter from the tax credits saying I have someone staying with me and they want alot of information like bank statements rent letters and gas/leckie bills I can give them the information they want but the person does not live me they only use my address as a postage address I plan on telling them that in the letter but they want everything by the 5th of June I just want to no had this happen to anybody before and what was the outcome … I’m just a little worried incase they cut off the money

This has literally just happened to me. I had to prove that the person didn’t live with me. They said that I owed them over £8000 so I sent all relevant bills and also wrote a cover letter explaining that the person didn’t live with me (which they didn’t but used my address for postal reasons). I received a letter back saying that they had amended my tax credits and I didn’t owe anything. Simple as that really. After all, they can’t prove a negative and it was a negative that that person didn’t live here. What I’m saying is you have to prove that they didn’t live with you but they also have to prove that they did, which in my case, they couldn’t so that’s the end of that! Good luck! x
This happened to me and I was fined a years worth of tax credits- they said I had to prove that the other person didn’t live with me, and as I couldn’t they didn’t care whatsoever 😡
I has this and i got a letter saying they were happy with everything and carried on paying as normal. Even though my ex name was on 2 bills with just his name that i had sent to them. (Didnt realise his name was the only name on these 2 bills) did have back up proof ready as my landlady had legal documents of the dates he moved out and changed the tenancy to just my name but they didnt want any more proof.
unfortunately due to family experience it is not a good idea to have post going there. they assume, rightly or wrongly, they are living there and that is their proof
You need proof that although post is coming to you they live somewhere else. They go through every single thing on your bank statement and ask who people are and why they gave you money or you gave them money, they try to get you to say that they live with you but as long as you tell the truth and have proof it will all be alright. x
if their post comes to yours then they’ll say they live with you.. thats their proof the post
If their post goes there they’ll assume they live there. Do they have proof of living elsewhere?
Just ring up explain that and also post recorded delivery they won’t stop your money x
